The Diamond Petroleum Initiative is our conceptualized Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) where we recognize that our social and economic actions impact the environment and communities around us. Therefore, as part of our CSR, we have highlighted the following core challenges faced by the communities in Zambia where we have committed ourselves to make a positive impact and strive for a better tomorrow.
Access to clean and safe water is a basic human right that unfortunately not every person has an equitable access to. Having no access to clean, safe drinking water brings about diseases such as dysentery, cholera, diarrhea, and typhoid. These diseases are preventable for as long as clean, safe, continuous, and physically accessible water is made available. As Sapphire Energy Co. Ltd, we have formulated the Blue initiative where we commit ourselves to identify communities most challenged by the access to clean and safe water and sink boreholes for them to enjoy their basic human right. The capability to access clean and safe water can contribute greatly towards poverty reduction and overall have a positive impact on a country’s economic growth.
With the issue of global climate change on the increase, Zambia is one of the countries that is experiencing extreme weather, seasonal droughts, and occasional dry spells due to the adverse effects of climate change. 85% of Zambias’ electricity is generated by hydro power stations which is increasingly vulnerable to climate change. As Sapphire Energy, we have formulated the Green initiative where we commit ourselves to identify vulnerable organisations and communities dependent on electric energy and set up solar electricity generating projects. This will help them stay empowered and have a positive impact on the environment as clean renewable energy is made and used rather than shifting to other less green forms of energy.
